Carnet Grants Cross Borders With Ease

Thursday, October 3, 2019

Pip, pip, cheerio, I say: Be our guest at the League of American Orchestras Conference. We welcomed our 1st cross-Atlantic grant recipient, Michael Garvey, Director, BBC Orchestra Wales, to Nashville, TN, where this year’s conference was held in June.

Michael assessed his Conference experience, “My attendance at the LOAO Conference in Nashville this year was a fruitful and valuable experience for me. Firstly I was reassured at the many similarities I noted between the UK and US orchestral sectors: we are both dealing with many of the same issues and challenges and both equally motivated by the desire to serve our audiences and bring the highest quality performances to as wide a ‘market’ as possible. We’re developing a range of audience development tools to achieve this and I gathered a range of ideas from my US counterparts as a result of my conference attendance. Sharing ideas, meeting others and networking with colleagues in a similar role is an exciting and hugely beneficial form of professional development.”

Orchestras in the US can help UK orchestras by recommending boomerang carnets. Together we can help preserve the cultural diplomacy classical music carries across borders and do it while saving valuable time and money. Music has no borders, and neither will you when you have a boomerang carnet on your next international tour.

According to Moira Wilson, Carnets “Play the World” Grant Coordinator, “Not only have our grants helped countless administrators, of US orchestras who tour internationally, attend the annual conference but, in 2018, the Association of British Orchestras accepted our proposal to offer the same grants to administrators of UK orchestras who also tour internationally.

Moira continues, “Orchestras in the United States have benefited from the ATA Carnet service boomerang carnets has provided for decades. With Brexit coming October 31st, it’s imperative that the United Kingdom’s orchestras are ready with a viable option to continue international touring as seamlessly as possible.

Known for pioneering easy and affordable ATA Carnets in the US, boomerang carnets provide the same service in the UK. Want to mitigate the uncertainty of Brexit with a sound plan? Access a Brexit Boomerang Carnet  through the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce where membership is not a requirement. Boomerang carnets provide additional cost savings beyond what other issuing chambers provide and, a boomerang carnet is in hand in less time. This means UK orchestras are on their way to the first stop on their international tour having spent less money and time to do so.

Still not sure? Query US orchestra colleagues. Most professional, youth and, university orchestras who tour internationally have used our service. We encourage orchestras to read our customer testimonials and reviews. In addition, we’re Business Partners with the League of American Orchestras.”
